From "Freedom Gardens" to "Presidential Trees," the principal Financial Group and National Garden Clubs,
Inc. are awarding nearly $200,000 in grants to civic development projects across the nation that honor those who serve our
country.
"Let Freedom Ring" is the theme of the Principal Financial Group Civic Development Grant Program 2005-2007,
which is awarding up to $3000 for each local project.
193 clubs in 45 states, plus one club in Peru, have been selected as winners of this year's progarm with awards totaling
$180,350.
The PRINCIPAL FINANCIAL GROUP 2005-2007
Civic Development Grant Program -- in conjunction with NGC, Inc. and state garden clubs, for Regions, States, Districts,
and Member Clubs nationally. It will feature civic development projects honoring those who serve our country. Grants will
be awarded up to $3000 each and will require matching funds.
Suggested projects are: developing Freedom Gardens at historic sites; planting Presidential Trees; initating new
or refurbished Blue Star Memorial markers, etc. These projects lend themselves well to VA hospitals, cemeteries, military
establishments, schools and highway/byways, many of which will be of historic value.
